I had been working on maximum throughput you expect from an Ethernet link and while inspecting tcp/ip packets I reviewed the protocol which appeared to have some overhead that will in fact be reported as network utilisation but higher protocol at application layer will not report as much as the network device will be reporting. I also came across this article and must say it is an excellent insight to udp and tcp protocols running on ethernet or fast ethernet copper.
